Description

Are you a strong line manager and a Software Engineering Manager, ideally with a background in medical devices? We've got a great role in an innovating company looking to close the loop between therapeutic products, remote monitoring and supporting doctors and patients with effective intervention.

We are looking for an experienced, proactive Software Engineering Manager with proven leadership skills and experience building medical device software under a Quality Management System.

In this role, you'll be driving the creation of an effective Software Development organisation, focused on the medical device software and supporting infrastructure needed for CLM's innovative therapeutic products. You'll also play a key role in ensuring CLM software is build according to our Quality Management System, ultimately to meet the expectations of key medical device standards (IEC 62304, ISO 13485).

We'll be running several projects at the same time, and you'll be responsible for building and managing diverse teams of technical specialists and delivery staff from different disciplines to meet product development and maintenance goals. You'll be expected to coordinate with other key stakeholders to formulate and execute strategies to enable successful organisational growth to meet our scaling goals. The product, technology, and usability / UX leads will be your go-to colleagues for shaping the organisation.

What you'll be doing:

  • Supporting the research and development of new designs and products, proposing budgets and staffing models, and overseeing the variety of activities required to successfully deliver and maintain products.
  • Proposing and managing staffing and budgets for projects.
  • Working closely with delivery managers to plan and execute strategies for completing projects on time.
  • Supervising the work of multiple cross-functional teams, and line-managing technical staff.
  • Ensuring that technical staff engage with the Quality Management System, collaborating closely with CLM's Quality Management team.
  • Supporting the research and development of new designs and products.

  • Hiring contractors and building teams.

  • Providing clear and concise objectives for engineering teams.

What you'll bring:

  • Exceptional foresight
  • Great communication skills
  • Working knowledge of different engineering disciplines and how they relate to one another.
  • An aptitude for managing risk.
  • Medical device standards and practices, including 62304 and 13485.
  • Staff management skills, including objective setting, reviews, disciplinary actions, etc.
  • Contemporary software delivery practices, i.e. Agile/Kanban, but preferably as applied to medical device development
  • Software Engineering skills - i.e. programming, software design and documentation, QA, CI/CD etc. Some historic experience in this role is essential as you will be leading the team in this respect.
  • Experience building medical device software products. Related experience in similarly regulated fields or under a QMS will also be considered.
  • Bachelor's degree in the software engineering field or similar.
  • Engineering management experience.
  • Proven supervisory and technical skills

Desirable but not mandatory:

  • Medical experience or experience operating in a highly regulated industry
  • Ideally, candidates will have proof of their supervisory and technical skills, and an appreciation for the complex nature of healthcare industry.
  • Familiarity with regulatory standards such as IEC 62366.
  • Master's degree in engineering management, technical management, or business administration preferred.
