Description

Our team at Coronado is on a mission to revolutionise the way data and evidence are developed and applied - optimising the drug development process to accelerate outcomes. Across our Medical Affairs & Scientific Communications work, we combine scientific rigour with tailored communication and engagement to meet the needs of each audience.

To further fuel our growth trajectory, we have identified a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Business Development Director to lead business development for and be a key part of our growing Medical Affairs & Scientific Communications division. This is a

significant and pivotal role for developing new client partnerships and growing strategic accounts across global, EMEA and US markets.

Our Medical Affairs and Scientific Communications team provides strategic and tactical services for Medical Affairs. In particular, and in addition to providing the typical range of core services, we are renowned for our proprietary and leading-edge personalised evidence and engagement approaches that help our clients communicate with clarity and impact.

To be considered, you'll bring demonstrable new business experience within a medical communications agency environment, with a strong track record of converting opportunities into long-term client partnerships.

Development team across Coronado. As Business Development Director (Medical Communications), you will be a key driver of growth and strategic accounts for the division - building sales pipeline, winning new programmes, and expanding existing relationships.

In particular, you'll partner with our Medical Affairs & Scientific Communications leadership to shape proposals and pitches, refine messaging, and continuously improve our go-to-market approach as we scale further across global, EMEA and US markets. You will also support effective cross-functional and cross-divisional efforts for new business and account growth, collaborating with client service and delivery teams.

Success in this role will come from your ability to navigate complex sales cycles, engage a range of mid to senior stakeholders (up to and including C-suite) across biotech and pharma, and bring market insight back into the business to help shape our go-to-market plans. You will bring urgency, structure, and momentum to opportunity development - without compromising on quality and building / enhancing our reputation at each step.

If you thrive in a fast-paced, high-growth environment and are excited to be part of and help grow a next-generation consultancy with innovative solution approaches, this uncommon opportunity of role within the agency sector is for you.

What you'll be doing:

  • Drive new business for Coronado's Medical Communications division across EMEA and the US - selling strategic and tactical Medical Affairs services including our proprietary personalised evidence and engagement approaches, while building and progressing a healthy pipeline from first meeting through to award.
  • Own the sales process end-to-end: discovery, qualification, solution shaping, pricing input, proposal development, pitch leadership, contracting support, and close.
  • Partner with scientific and client service leaders to develop compelling, compliant proposals that reflect the brief and demonstrate strategic value.
  • Expand existing accounts by identifying whitespace (new therapy areas, new workstreams, additional services) and converting this into structured account growth plans.
  • Strengthen our go-to-market approach by feeding back market intelligence, competitor insight, and client pain points to inform messaging, case studies, and commercial materials.
  • Support seamless handover and retention by collaborating with delivery teams to ensure a strong client experience post-sale and to spot expansion opportunities early.
  • Run disciplined forecasting using CRM and agreed qualification frameworks to ensure transparency on pipeline, risks, and priorities.

This job is for you if you have:

  • Proven medical communications agency BD experience with a track record of winning new business and growing accounts (you can talk through named examples, budgets, and outcomes).
  • Strong stakeholder management, confident engaging senior decision-makers across biotech and pharma and navigating multi-stakeholder buying committees.
  • Hands-on pit
