Are you interested in Preclinical business development? We are looking either for an experienced business developer or a lab expert who wants to move into sales. We need someone to work on the DACH region, ideally based in Germany in a location near clients - Berlin or Frankfurt are slightly preferred.  They have a great, supportive sales leader for you to work with, but you will need to be able to manage yourself and be tenacious enough to deliver the sales targets. 

Our client is pioneering research in epithelial stem cell biology, which has been transformed into a range of models, assays, and services. They have a diverse client base that includes startups, established biotech firms, global pharmaceutical companies, and academic institutions. Collaborating with commercial and academic partners, they can validate and develop novel models that are state-of-the-art.

You will be selling their expertise too. They have expert scientists are highly experienced in taking new therapeutic agents from early in vitro testing to clinical candidate nomination and clinical trial support. They offer guidance on appropriate models as well as options to design and manage customized protocols to meet study objectives. Additionally, they have project managers are available to provide continuous support and expert guidance to ensure successful completion of the study.

The areas of research currently performed include (but are not limited to): oncology, spheroids & 3D organoids, inflammatory diseases & gastrointestinal diseases, histology and image analysis, and pharmacogenomics.

Job purpose

The successful candidate will be responsible for increasing revenue by generating sales from existing and new clients. They will be an experienced 'hunter', rather than 'farmer', selling preclinical research services, ideally from within a small company.

The candidate will be responsible for identifying and qualifying new business opportunities, engaging with prospective clients and closing contracts via the implementation of a strategic approach to lead generation, with day to day management of a lead generating team.

Key Responsibilities and Functions

  • Using the appropriate search tools/databases/market intelligence identify and contact new prospective clients
  • Identify senior level contacts within these organisations. Research will involve using internet search tools, industry directories, patent databases and research publications.
  • Ensure continuous communication between Scientific Team and Sponsors 
  • Development, management, and maintenance of customer relationship management (CRM) 
  • Participate in weekly BD conference calls.
  • Implement and participate in setting the early sales strategy aimed at achieving and exceeding sales turnover and financial return.
  • Management and development of supporting staff responsible for earlier stages of the sales pipeline 
  • Accurately forecast sales opportunities.
  • Maintain a high level of scientific and commercial competence on relevant products and services.
  • Maintain an awareness of competitor activities and developments 
  • Participate in scientific and partnering meetings, exhibitions and conferences to maintain high levels of market presence and engagement.
  • Participate in commercial strategy discussions with the Commercial Director and the wider Executive Team.

Qualifications, Experience and Skills/Competencies Required

  • Education - University level degree in a Life Sciences related discipline, and ideally a higher degree. A background in oncology, gastrointestinal, inflammation or dermatological therapeutic areas would be advantageous.
  • Field sales experience selling into the biotech/pharma sector (B2B). Experience in sales and key account management in the area of selling Preclinical Research Services is desirable, preferably in the inflammatory diseases and oncology.  A proven track-record of achieving and exceeding sales targets, along with a desire to grow new business. International experience desirable.
  • Experience in understanding client needs and business drivers and using this knowledge to develop account plans and sales strategies.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills - experience of both client and team management.
  • Experience preparing proposals and drafting contracts, with associated negotiation skills.
  • Persistence and tenacity in developing prospects and clients, and able to close business.
