We have a great Bioinformatics Lead R&D Engineer role, ideally based in Paris or London or one of our clients other European hubs. This has the opportunity to build and lead an engineering team fully dedicated to supporting our client's exciting Precision Medicine R&D programs
You should be passionate about code health, coding best practices and conducting implementations of POC research algorithms/ the creation of libraries of code for data loading:preprocessing
As our client's team are growing quickly, you will be able to grow your team and be able attract good ML engineers to your team
Our client has offices in London, Paris and other locations across Europe. You will need to get to their Paris office at least 2-3 days/ month for team collaborations and learning.
As a Lead R&D Engineer, you will be engaged in many different subjects, ranging from applied biomedical research in oncology to more fundamental machine learning research topics.
You'll work directly with the R&D Teams under the supervision of our SVP Data Science, collaborate and co-develop with the Data Platform and Diagnostics team across the organization.
In particular, you will:
Lead the development of our proprietary ML libraries & workflows in collaboration across the R&D team
Develop our image processing and bioinformatics pipelines in collaboration with R&D teams
Contribute to solutions to optimize the code for our innovative methodologies
Contribute to building the right environment for experiment management and reproducibility, and to managing the lifecycle of our AI models
Support prototype development & partner with our Data Platform engineers to help optimize selected prototypes
Help bring best practices in software development to a team of talented data and research scientists.
The position is located in Paris.
About you - we are ideally looking for someone with:
PhD or engineering degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Statistics or any other related field.
Software development experience within a team or open-source project with expertise in Python or another scientific computing language ; strong grasp of programming best-practices (e.g. code clarity, documentation, git, etc.) ; commercial experience a plus ;
Technical expertise in probability, statistics, optimization, scientific computing, bioinformatics would be a plus as well as knowledge in ML/deep learning concepts and implementation ;
Strong analytical skills with demonstrated ability to quickly adapt to research topics and domains ; a collaborative mindset in a research environment is a must ;
Ability to communicate ideas in a concise and precise manner ;
Experience managing multi-stakeholder research projects.
Good experience in ML, Data Science, MLOps or Software engineering
Experience in production environments: Documentation / Specification, Unit tests, Deployment, Code optimisation
Knowledge and familiarity of machine learning fundamentals. Proficiency with Machine Learning and Deep Learning frameworks (Tensorflow, PyTorch, etc.)
Development experience in Linux/Unix-like environments.
Cloud experience a plus.
